BAN advises on ID needed for all deposits.


Ian Leyenaar, chairman of the Bankers Association of Namibia and CEO of FNB Namibia has advised that as from 1 July 2014 identification will be needed by customers for all deposits done within any bank. He said: “This is a regulatory requirement as part of the Know your customer (KYC) campaign and national identity documentation is required for all deposits.

This means either a valid ID or passport is needed. This initiative will be supported by a marketing campaign to ensure that all customers are aware of that before the deadline of 1 July 2014.” He added: It would be good to already start bringing your ID or passport now in order to get used to this before it becomes a must within a month.”
